A Perfect Night Out

It has been a while now since spring break ended(three weeks are long for me!), and the rest of the school year seems to be fairly stressful, so I have to release myself from intense studies and think about something exciting.
If I have an evening to spend, I’d like to spend it with my friends in China. I miss them so much! It would be nice to do anything with them, but for a perfect night, I need to take care of what to eat, what to do, and what to watch. There are so many things in the world I would like to eat, but to name a few for a night out, I would look forward to have the pasta at the Cheesecake Factory or Chinese foods that I have been craving for ages--roasted Peking duck, hot pot, Hong Kong milk tea, etc. After a great meal, I’d like to go shopping with my friends. Whether for stationary or for clothing, we would have a good time buying. Then, watching a movie together would be really relaxing but still exciting after a walk around in the shopping mall. We could watch an action movie and hold our breath with the characters, or an innovative science-fiction movie while eating caramel popcorn that can be rarely found in the U.S.. If the movie schedule doesn’t fit, we would just stay in someone’s home to sleep over, and might or might not ended up fangirling to some sexy YouTubers…
All in all, an evening always ends, no matter how perfect it is. The most important thing and the key thing to happiness to me is not going to some fancy restaurants or having an unusual experience, but is having a good, close time with my friends.

Spring

Actor Robin Williams said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!'” What do you think he meant? Do you agree or disagree? Why?

I agree with what Robin Williams said. I think by saying this, he meant spring is the season of comfortable temperature, lovely sunshine, and the sprout of every plant, it is a suitable time to active our souls and party.
Spring is my favorite season. Compare to autumn when every creature slows down and prepares to suffer the coldness of winter, spring is energetic and it doesn’t have the gloomy sky that makes me feel depressed. To those ones who loves winter, the chilling wind is refreshing and the snow is fun, but I appreciate the soothing breeze more. The low temperature only makes my brain freeze. Moving on, after spring is the season of passion, summer. I also enjoy summer very much, but spring just has the perfect, moderate weather that is whether too hot to step out of the room with air-conditioning or too cold to not wearing tons of clothing.

With the gorgeous spring in Bell Buckle, I can totally feel the call of nature. All kinds of flowers start blooming. Grass seems more vividly green even though the mild climate here never makes it wither. Spring is an inviting season, everything around me seems to persuade me to join the nature. The quote from Robin Williams is very true.

Dressed for Success

I have never heard the phrase “dressed for success” before, but I think what it expresses is true and is really helpful in daily life. Dressing for success can lead to actual success. A clean and tidy outfit can give other people a good impression of you and show your true potential. For a boss of a business, dressing carelessly would lose one’s authority from his or her workers, and as a staff member without proper clothing, coworkers and business partners might feel disrespected. Nowadays we have seen many images of famous Silicon Valley entrepreneurs wearing casual clothing, which make us to assume the workplace is no longer a formal environment. If an interviewee only wears jeans and t-shirts, his employer won’t consider him as a serious or competitive applicant for the job. On the other hand, being dressed for success can also impact of a person internally. Personally, on vacations, I always stay at home for the whole day and don’t meet anyone. I used to wake up and wear my pajamas all day long since no one would see me or care my “style”. However, I have found  that dressing up a little has a positive impact on my overall mood. I feel more awake and ready to begin a productive day. In conclusion, dressing for success is what we should do for both extrinsic and intrinsic benefits.

Terrible Cupid

When I looked up and saw Cupid, I knew we were in trouble. After I saw Stacy kissing the locker, Tom saying sugared words to the clock, Linda blowing the saxophone so crazily that kept all boys away, I knew the worst thing could happen was being shot by Cupid.
How did he come into our classroom? I didn’t know. The only thing I knew was I should get away from Cupid and his evil arrows as quick as possible. I slipped through the backdoor. The teacher asked me, “Where are you going, Steve?” “Eh… I’m going to the bathroom.I answered. Then I spent the rest of my class hiding in the bathroom, trying to avoid Cupid.
Finally, the class was over, and I was happy to see Cupid was not there anymore. I picked up my backpack and went to the next class. It was an English class, and we had a good time discussing the book we were reading, Romeo and Juliet, in groups. Chris thought love was bad because it caused the death of Romeo and Juliet; but Nola said, “Suffering is a part of love, isn’t it? It will be sweet only after you taste the bitterness.” “I really tried to give people love without misery…” Where was this mumble from? No one in my class sounded like this. I turned my head, and in a horror, I saw Cupid’s face. I pulled my chair and tried to escape, but in the moment, I felt something hit my chest. I paused, but I could see no arrow hit on my body. Looking up, there was also no little angel with stupid wings around; instead, I saw Nola’s caring, watery, big brown eyes. “You don’t look good, Steve. Are you okay?” Why were her lashes that long and thick? “Nothing, I’m fine, thanks. I just think what you just said is very true…”

The Celebrity I Want to Meet

If I have a chance to meet any celebrity, I would use this chance to meet the British actor, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Like most people, I know him from the BBC TV series, Sherlock. In this series, he plays the main role, the well-known detective, Sherlock Holmes. Distinguished from other countless recreations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original story, Sherlock talks about Sherlock and his friend John Watson in a setting of modern London. Although the TV series only contains about 10 episodes, I have found it is so fascinating and delicate that I have watched each episode so many times since being introduced to this great actor, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Benedict Cumberbatch was born in 1976 and is 39 years old. Being in middle age and not having a stunning appearance, he is not a typical idol that teenage girls scream at; however, his education and manner make his acting extraordinary. Benedict graduated from the University of Manchester and continued his training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and played many famous plays on stage besides being on TV and in movie productions, for example: William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. I feel this experience has made him a great actor and has introduced us his moving acting.
I’d like to meet Benedict Cumberbatch because, firstly, he is one of my favorite actors; also, he was abducted in South Africa in 2005. After being set free, Benedict began to practice the Buddhist philosophy. There is a rumor that he is a supporter of Tibetan independence movement, so as a Chinese person and being familiar with Buddhist culture, I feel it would be really interesting to communicate with my favorite actor on this topic.

The Thing I Like About Myself?

As a person that is not so confident and satisfied about myself, the first reaction to answer this question is “nothing”. However, I know that is not true because nice things can always be found in everybody’s personality.
So back to the question, my answer is, I like my passion of reading books and thinking. This doesn’t mean that I keep thinking what Plato, Freud and Einstein thought and despise “meaningless” random chat; on the contrary, this character trait of mine lets me appreciate the joy of daily life.
To explain this empty claim of this “passion”, I’d like to say I have loved reading since I was a kid and was known for reading every second and everywhere. As I grow up, mobile phones and computers seem take over a little bit, but lying on the bed or sitting on the sofa and reading books  without distractions is still the best thing in a day.
I love this trait about me because reading shows me the charm of knowledge. To illustrate, I want to share my experience with the Rosetta Stone. I read about the Rosetta Stone in the most widely-considered boring history textbooks, and it is basically a stone in ancient Egypt with three languages on it. The stone helped archaeologists to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphs. The stone was just be an ordinary history term in my memory until I visited a museum in Houston which displayed the Rosetta Stone. Although that was only a replica, the whole exhibit made more sense to me. All the facts I learned connected with things I was seeing. I talked about them with my friend. She said, “That sounds interesting. The only history I can remember all happened in this century.” I felt bad about her and the previous me for not feeling the same excitement I was enjoying.
So, here this the thing I like about myself. I hope I will keep reading for the rest of my life.
